Continental FC To Fully Fund U-14 Dev. Academy Team For The 2014-2015 Season

Continental FC is about to complete our highly successful inaugural season. The combination of two premier legacy organizations (Spirit United Soccer Club and FC DELCO) affords us the opportunity to continue to build the best youth soccer club with local, regional and national prestige. We are excited to be on the forefront of the exciting developments being driven by US Soccer.

We are excited to announce the intention to fully fund the U14 Continental FC DELCO Development Academy for the 2014/2015 season. This funding is in response to our evaluation from US Soccer and one that they feel is a crucial component for the development of soccer in the country. This one-time funding has two components. First, the actual dollars are derived from a combination of sources; donations from outside the club specifically designated for this purpose and existing assets previously set aside from the legacy FC DELCO organization. No Continental FC funds are being used in this initiative. And, second, this is a one-year effort to give our organization the time necessary to conduct a feasibility study to fully fund our entire Academy (the long term directive from US Soccer) and to further engage with US Soccer on strategies to achieve their vision within a 5-7 year time frame.

  • US Soccer is mandating the elimination of the pay-to-play model in order to maintain its membership in the US Soccer Development Academy which they feel hinders the overall participation of some players
  • Continental FC has agreed to the one-time funding of our U14 Development Academy for the 2014/2015 season
  • No Continental FC funds were used in this initiative. Funds are comprised of external donations and legacy FC DELCO assets
  • Continental FC will be conducting a feasibility study to determine how we can meet the mandate of US Soccer over the next 5-7 years
  • The one-time funding of our U14 Academy will not have any impact on our existing scholarship program or our current fees

FC DELCO, now Continental FC, is honored to  be one of the founding US Development Academy clubs  in 2008.  Continental FC is one of only two clubs in the Philadelphia metropolitan area and about 80 clubs and 20 MLS academies nationwide that continues to enjoy this status.

Continental FC's US Soccer Development Academy designation and the Elite Clubs National League (ECNL) designation for the girls are important and valuable components to our club allowing us to be the only regional club providing all levels of competition for both boys and girls.  These elite programs provide important growth opportunities for many of our athletes. In addition to the enhanced development these programs bring to all our teams, they continue to draw new members to our club, which is extremely important to our shared long-term success.

Best Regards,
The Board of Directors
